apple | applications | disk | firmware | iphone | mode | recording | rumor | rumors | services | v1.1.3 | voice

Those lucky French. The iPhone landed on French soil merely a week ago and it seems that Apple is already prepping an iPhone firmware update. The new v1.1.3 firmware is rumored to be getting the final touches to launch on Saturday, December 8 - and we’re expecting an Apple-sanctioned voice-recording application and a disk-mode function. Thanks for the great “Vnotes” app, Erica Sadun. We’ve been using your application to great effect over the past few months, but if Apple brings their own voice recording app to the iPhone, we’re going to have to jump ship and use the official Apple app. Oh, and disk-mode? Be still our geeky hearts! Here’s the translated text from Cnet France : “According to various rumors, it’s next Saturday that should leave the new firmware of the iPhone. This version 1.1.3 provides two major innovations: dictaphone function and the ability to use the telephone as an Apple hard drive. Indeed, the version 1.1.3 of the firmware, due at the end of the week, will mark a turning point since the iPhone will dictaphone and can be used as an external hard drive. ITunes requires, it will be impossible to directly transfer music and videos as with any other player. However, we can transfer documents more easily and content of the telephone network will be accessible. “ We’ve got high hopes for this rumor. After all, the new features aren’t exactly groundbreaking, and they’re completely in line with features that we’ve expected from the beginning. Give it a few days, we’ll have our answer soon enough. Apple posts iPhone v1.1.2 firmware - yea, great

announcements | apple | applications | firmware | iphone | v1.1.2

As expected , Apple has posted a new iPhone firmware today. With the European iPhone launch well underway, the new firmware is now an official part of the iPhone community. As you’ll probably recall, the iPhone v1.1.2 firmware basically adds extended language support with special character sets and keyboards. More notably, the iPhone v1.1.2 firmware gives UK iPhone users access to The Cloud WiFi HotSpot network. Oh, and it patches that TIFF security hole that’s been exploited by all jailbreak solutions. But, if you’re not in the UK (UK iPhones comes pre-installed with v1.1.2 anyway), and you don’t need anything more than English-language support, there’s really no reason to update your iPhone v1.1.1. The new v1.1.2 firmware will break your current jailbreak solution. And, seeing as how you can easily patch that TIFF security hole with an Installer.app application or through jailbreakme , we can’t really see any added benefit to US iPhone users. But, should you feel like updating your iPhone to the new v1.1.2 firmware, go right ahead and download the 160MB update.
