With Flixwagon already launched and bringing live video streaming to the iPhone, rival iPhone-as-video-stream application developer Qik has finally come to market with their very own video streaming solution for jailbroken iPhones. If the plethora of Twitter web-applications for the iPhone just isn't up to snuff for your Twittering (Tweeting?) ways, there's an alternative to the native iPhone Twitter client that I mentioned previously. Right. We're still waiting on Apple to release the next iPhone OS on us and Zibri has already released an updated ZiPhone utility. The new ZiPhone 3.0 brings with it a handful of bug fixes and new plug-in support. ZiPhone is the simple, one-click (well, it takes a few clicks, but who's counting?) jailbreak and unlock [...]

GeoPedia - location based iPhone application that has Wikipedia following your iPhone

announcements | apple | applications | geopedia | installer.app | iphone | jailbreak | jailbroken | mac os | wikipedia

Now this is one of the coolest third-party, native iPhone applications that I've yet to see. GeoPedia is basically a location-based Wikipedia interface for your iPhone. With the iPhone's (v1.1.3 and up) Google Maps My Location feature, iPhone users can hone in on their approximate location. It's not GPS accurate, but it can usually find the [...]

Jailbreakme.com updated to make iPhone v1.1.1 jailbreak simpler, one-click solution

announcements | apple | applications | installer.app | iphone | jailbreak | jailbreakme.com | mac os | v1.1.1 | v1.1.2 | v1.1.3

We’d be willing to bet that most iPhone owners out there that keep up to date with the iPhone-related posts have already jailbroken their iPhone v1.1.1. Further, chances are even better that iPhone v1.1.1 users have jailbroken their handsets using the Jailbreakme.com web-based solution. Now that the iPhone v1.1.3 jailbreak method is online and greatly simplified (thanks to the iJailbreakMobile application available on Installer.app), we’re willing to bet that many iPhone v1.1.3 owners will be looking to downgrade their handsets to v1.1.1 in preparation for a jailbroken v1.1.3 upgrade. If you haven’t already done so, hit up our iPhone v1.1.3 jailbreak/downgrade guide . Well, we’ve just got word that jailbreakme.com is helping to streamline the process of jailbreaking your v1.1.1 iPhone and updating to a jailbroken v1.1.2. Once you’ve downgraded to the iPhone v1.1.1 firmware and you’re ready to jailbreak the sucker, just head on over to jailbreakme.com (from your iPhone’s Safari browser) and click “Install AppSnapp.” The jailbreakme.com application now installs Oktoprep automatically, obviating the need to install the Oktoprep package prior to updating to the iPhone v1.1.2 firmware. It’s a small update, but it makes life that much easier for enterprising iPhone fiddlers. HOT: iPhone v1.1.3 firmware already jailbroken - full read/write access to filesystem; native third-party applications

announcements | apple | applications | developer | installer.app | iphone | jailbreak | jailbroken | mac os | v1.1.3

Welp, that’s the game, folks! Just days after the third-party application-killing iPhone v1.1.3 firmware was released , the iPhone developing/hacking community has already put together a legit jailbreak solution for all iPhones and iPod Touches running v1.1.3 code. Apparently, some firmware code-digging has revealed that Apple’s codename for the v1.1.3 firmware is “LittleBear” - now that’s cute. Now, the jailbreak (which allows full read/write access to the iPhone’s file-system, and thus allows native third-party applications to be installed) solution has been deemed by its developers as too complex for public consumption. That means there is no public jailbreak solution available, but rest assured that this major milestone in iPhone v1.1.3 development puts a public jailbreak solution on track for a near-term release. Just in case you’re more cynic than enthusiast, check out the video clip of a jailbroken iPod Touch, running the v1.1.3 firmware, and demonstrating some Installer.app goodness. The jailbreak solution has been confirmed to work on both iPhones and iPod Touches. How-To: Add third-party sources to your iPhone's Installer.app

add | applications | how to | installer.app | iphone | sources

I recently found myself needing to add a third-party repository to my iPhone’s Installer.app “Sources” list. An application repository is basically a handful of third-party applications meant for Installer.app. Repositories are hosted by various developers - Ste, Conceited Software , ModMyiFone, etc. While Installer.app is a great way to add third-party applications to your iPhone, you won’t be able to access a particular developer’s applications-list without adding their repository to your “Source” list. Here’s a quick tutorial on just how to add application sources like ModMyiFone’s application repository:

  1. Jailbreak ( updated Jailbreak method for v1.1.2 iPhones) your iPhone - the Nullriver Installer application ( Installer.app ) will automatically install itself
  2. Start-up your Installer.app
  3. Hit up the “Sources” section
  4. Then hit “Edit” in the upper right corner
  5. You should see the “Refresh” button replaced with the “Add” button in the upper left corner, hit that.
  6. Enter the address of the developer’s repository (for MMi, it’s http://modmyifone.com/installer.xml )
  7. Click “Done” and you’re, well, done! You should now see new applications from the developer in your “Install” section - adding the MMi source will result in a new “ModMyiFone.com” category as well as a host of other “MMi” categories.
That’s it, pretty painless right? If you have any questions, leave it in the Comments section. ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:iPhone gets native MMS!3 million iPhones to be available for launch?Apple voiding warranties and blacklisting any unlocked iPhones with third-party appsiPhone to support 3rd party apps!Installer.app v3.0 beta released - iPhone v1.1.1 third-party application installer
