With the iPhone and iPhone 3G jailbreak released in to the wild and ready to open read/write access to the iPhone’s filesystem from any Mac or PC, many have likely been scratching their heads as to where the AppStore alternative, Installer.app, has gone. Pwnage Tool 2.0 and WinPwn 2.0 both allow for custom firmwares to [...]

There's been considerable talk about VoIP services one the iPhone. With the release of the iPhone SDK, it was just a matter of time before native  applications for the iPhone started cropping up. If the plethora of Twitter web-applications for the iPhone just isn't up to snuff for your Twittering (Tweeting?) ways, there's an alternative to the native iPhone Twitter client that I mentioned previously. GeoPedia - location based iPhone application that has Wikipedia following your iPhone

Now this is one of the coolest third-party, native iPhone applications that I've yet to see. GeoPedia is basically a location-based Wikipedia interface for your iPhone. With the iPhone's (v1.1.3 and up) Google Maps My Location feature, iPhone users can hone in on their approximate location. It's not GPS accurate, but it can usually find the [...]

HOT: iPhone v1.1.3 firmware already jailbroken - full read/write access to filesystem; native third-party applications

announcements | apple | applications | developer | installer.app | iphone | jailbreak | jailbroken | mac os | v1.1.3

Welp, that’s the game, folks! Just days after the third-party application-killing iPhone v1.1.3 firmware was released , the iPhone developing/hacking community has already put together a legit jailbreak solution for all iPhones and iPod Touches running v1.1.3 code. Apparently, some firmware code-digging has revealed that Apple’s codename for the v1.1.3 firmware is “LittleBear” - now that’s cute. Now, the jailbreak (which allows full read/write access to the iPhone’s file-system, and thus allows native third-party applications to be installed) solution has been deemed by its developers as too complex for public consumption. That means there is no public jailbreak solution available, but rest assured that this major milestone in iPhone v1.1.3 development puts a public jailbreak solution on track for a near-term release. Just in case you’re more cynic than enthusiast, check out the video clip of a jailbroken iPod Touch, running the v1.1.3 firmware, and demonstrating some Installer.app goodness. The jailbreak solution has been confirmed to work on both iPhones and iPod Touches.
