Well, ain’t this a bit of unexpected good news from the ailing Treo-maker. It seems that recent layoff plans and negative quarterly results haven’t stopped Palm from continuing to push the Palm Treo 755p through Verizon Wireless’s certification tests . We’re hearing that the hugely disappointing Treo 755p has been given the thumbs-up to hit Big Red’s network and should be pulling duty as Verizon’s Treo-flagship in the near future - that is, if you still (or ever did) care. It’s too bad the delay of this incredibly unworthy device was the cause of Palm’s continued financial troubles - and precipitated the demise of a portion of Palm’s workforce. Verizon Wireless fans rejoice! Your carrier’s certification process is the root of all those employees’ holiday woes. Hope it was worth it . Was it worth it? Damn. Just yesterday we heard rumblings of struggling Treo-maker Palm’s possible move to let some of its employees enjoy their holidays without having to worry about going to work. Well, it looks like those rumors are now pretty much a reality for a few unfortunate Palm employees. The Wall Street Journal has confirmed that “Palm made some reassignments and staff reductions.” We’re not sure just how widespread or exactly how many Palm-employees are going to be getting a pink-slip in their inbox, but if Palm’s financial woes are any indicator, we’re going to say it’s not any small number. Our condolences to Palm employees - although, we can’t say this wasn’t all that unexpected . Here’s a thought. Cut the CEO’s salary and keep a few more employees until at least Q2 of next year. December is a horrible time to find out that you no longer have a job. How’s about it, Palm? Palm snubs holiday cheer and lays off employees?

We’re hearing that Palm’s burning a bunch of holiday good-will and laying of employees just in time to spoil the holiday mood. PalmInfoCenter cites “reliable sources” that say that Palm is laying off employees around the globe. Now, the reports are unconfirmed at this point, but if they pan out, Palm will be making a lay-off announcement sometime later this week. For the sake of a stress-free holiday season, we’re hoping that Palm won’t be bringing the ax down on any of its worker-bees. Of course, Palm isn’t doing all that well this quarter - or last quarter , or the quarter before that, for that matter - so it’s not all that surprising to hear that Palm is trying to with the “lean and mean” strategy when it comes to its employee-base. It’s just too bad that the renewed focus on actually making money will be at the expense of a good deal of holiday cheer and their employees’ financial stability.
