SunCom first to release BlackBerry 8120 Pearl
8120 | announcements | blackberry | devices | pearl | rim | suncom | t-mobileFancy that WiFi-packing BlackBerry 8120 Pearl that T-Mobile is slated to launch in February (you know, after they clear out existing 8100 Pearl-stock)? Well, if you happen to be within SunCom’s coverage area and have an extra $220 to spend, you can now grab-up a BlackBerry 8120 Pearl from SunCom. The $200 price tag includes contract-subsidization and rebates, so you had better be sure you really want a WiFi smartphone that doesn’t even sport a full-QWERTY keyboard - although, we hear that some people really dig that SureType keyboard. Interestingly, SunCom was recently acquired by T-Mobile . How does a subsidiary launch a highly-anticipated handset before the parent? When the parent company still has boatloads of current-generation BlackBerry 8100 Pearl inventory to clear out before they launch the WiFi-enabled version. The SunCom-branded BlackBerry 8120 Pearl will run you the aforementioned $220 and is available in the “Blue” that you see above. If you like the more muted “Amethyst” offering from T-Mobile, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer . ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:BlackBerry 8120, the new Pearl?RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8120 will not have GPS; to launch on AT&T before T-MobileT-Mobile BlackBerry 8120 Pearl gets real in February 2008RIM planning BlackBerry 8110 Pearl with GPS?BlackBerry Pearl 2 (8120) live shots and details
T-Mobile BlackBerry 8120 Pearl gets real in February 2008
8120 | announcements | blackberry | devices | pearl | rim | t mo | t mobile | t-mobile | tmo | tmobile | wifiFollowing on Sprint , Alltel , and Verizon’s WiFi-equipped BlackBerry 8120 Pearl offerings, the GSM variant of the handset is slated to hit T-Mobile’s network this coming February - with a WiFi radio in place of the GPS module in the 8130. We’re looking for a February 18th launch date, to be exact. The T-Mobile BlackBerry 8120 Pearl will rock the expected integrated WiFi radio that we saw all those other carriers launch recently . And, as such, the GSM-based BlackBerry 8120 Pearl will feature a revised keyboard and trackball and a microSD card slot to complement its built-in WiFi. Oh, and that WiFi should make this BlackBerry 8120 Pearl a shoe-in for T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home service. For now, T-Mobile will be cleaning out its BlackBerry 8100 Pearl inventory over this holiday shopping season. It makes sense to move out the old stock before the new shipments start to flow free. Unfortunately, that means that there are going to be a lot of disappointed BlackBerry 8100 Pearl owners out there when they find out that their awesome Christmas gift was pretty much outdated before they even unwrapped it. If only they had been up to date on the info that IntoMobile provided on just this matter … [Via: Engadget Mobile ] ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:BlackBerry 8120, the new Pearl?RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8120 will not have GPS; to launch on AT&T before T-MobileRIM planning BlackBerry 8110 Pearl with GPS?BlackBerry Pearl 8120 with WiFi and GPS spotted on FCCBlackBerry Pearl 2 (8120) live shots and details

RIM planning BlackBerry 8110 Pearl with GPS?
8110 | 8120 | 8130 | blackberry | devices | pearl | rim | rumorsSo, with the BlackBerry 8120 Pearl sporting a lonesome WiFi radio, it makes sense for RIM to push a GSM version of the GPS-enabled BlackBerry 8130 Pearl . Word on the street has it that the new BlackBerry Pearl 8110 will be picking up where the Pearl 8120 left off - opting for a GPS receiver in place of the WiFi radio. We’re thinking that 3G is in the cards for the Blackberry 8110 Pearl, but that would be speculation. The launch window for the BlackBerry 8110 Pearl is supposedly slated for early 2008, which means this GSM jobby won’t make it into any Christmas stockings next month. We’ll update when we know more. RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8120 will not have GPS; to launch on AT&T before T-Mobile
8120 | blackberry | cingular/at&t | devices | fcc | gps | pearl | rim | t-mobile | technologies | wifiThese things happen. It seems we jumped the gun when we previously noted that the recently FCC-approved RIM BlackBerry 8120 Pearl will rock both an integrated-GPS module and WiFi. Turns out, the reference to “GPS” in the FCC documentation was merely a section that details how to connect a Bluetooth GPS receiver to the BlackBerry Pearl 8120. Closer inspection leads us to believe that RIM has not figured out how to fit a GPS and WiFi radio into the Pearl-package - which means that the BlackBerry 8120 Pearl will likely be launching with only a WiFi radio. Sorry to disappoint all you BlackBerry fans waiting for a GPS and WiFi-addled Pearl. But, T-Mobile fans will be even more disappointed to hear that the BlackBerry 8120 Pearl should be hitting AT&T’s network before T-mobile. The recently launched CDMA BlackBerry 8130 Pearl with that glorious integrated GPS receiver will be making its way to Alltel’s network sporting an “amethyst” color scheme. Expect the Alltel BlackBerry 8130 Pearl to pack in all the same hardware as its Sprint and Verizon kin - which is to say that it’ll rock GPS, EVDO, 2 megapixel camera, microSDHC card slot, and that SureType keyboard. Alltel says they’ll be launching their BlackBerry 8130 Pearl in time for the holiday shopping season (which is quite literally upon us), so look for this new Pearl to drop fairly soon. Oh, and it’ll cost you $150 after a $100 rebate (2-year contract required, of course). Telus brings the BlackBerry Pearl 2.0 to Canda
2 | 8130 | announcements | blackberry | devices | gps | pearl | rim | telusIt looks like our friends to the North are getting in on the BlackBerry Pearl 2.0 party. Telus has just made the BlackBerry Pearl 2.0 (we know it better as the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 ) official for maple-syrup lovers in Canada. The GPS-packin’ BlackBerry Pearl 2.0 is expected to hit the Telus network at $199.99 with a 3-year contract (we’re assuming that’s Canadian dollars, not like it matters now that the Looney is on par with the USD), or $499.99 free and clear. If you’re willing to sign away three years of your wireless life, $199.99 doesn’t sound too bad for a GPS Pearl. On the other hand, it’s going to be an obsolete handset in a year or so - that three-year commitment is pretty hardcore.
