We’ve seen many a handset sporting dual SIM-card support , but none as unique as this WND DUO Atom. Having two SIM cards plugged into your handset at the same time is nice and all, but we’d imagine that switching between the two accounts can get a bit tedious, if not downright annoying. The WND DUO Atom aims to give dual-SIM-card-wielding mobile warriors access to either SIM card at the flick of the wrist - literally. Simply turn the WND DUO Atom upside-down and the built-in sensors will re-orient the handset’s display and  activate the other SIM card. When you need to get back to using your other SIM, just turn the WND DUO Atom upside-down (or right-side up, depending on how you look at it) and you’re good to go with your original SIM card’s account. With a 3 megapixel camera, 128MB of onboard storage, stereo Bluetooth, GPRS Class 10, and tri-band GSM radio, the WND DUO Atom isn’t a slacker, but it’s not exactly feature-packed either. We’d consider this thing a mid-range jobby, with the easily accessible dual-SIM card setup as its main attraction. If you’re willing to sacrifice a bit of wireless data speed a good deal of US GSM coverage in return for convenient SIM card switching, then the WND DUO Atom is for you. Back to the land of speculation and hearsay we go. The latest whisper on the grapevine seems to suggest that Archos, makers of personal media players, will be expanding their lineup next year with media players that rock SIM cards. The rumor is rooted in a report from France’s Challenges magazine. So, why put a SIM card in a media player? Is Archos trying to go after Apple and the iPhone? It’s possible. But, more likely is that the SIM card would give the user access to 3G networks and the ability to wireless downloads music without needing a WiFi hotspot. Orange had been named as a possible network partner, but more recent dealings seem to indicate that AT&T and Neuf-Cegetel are interested in providing some network time for these 3G-enabled media players.  We’ll have to wait and see how this one pans out. The SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card is almost as ubiquitous is today’s mobilized society as the mobile phone itself. With GSM networks covering the world, it’s no wonder that the SIM card is as widely used as it is. Well, Infineon has announced that it will be working with chip-making giant Intel to develop high-density (HD) SIM cards boasting 32-bit security and 4MB - 64MB of on-board storage for “data-intensive mobile applications, services and over-the-air downloads.” Infineon will be developing the 32-bit security micro-controller, while Intel will be bringing their “leading-edge flash memory technologies, capabilities and manufacturing” prowess to the table. These types of HD SIM cards should make up 8-10% of the total SIM card market in 2010, so Infineon’s joint venture might just pay off in a couple years. We’re expecting to see samples of the first HD SIM cards in Q2 of 2008, with mass production slated for the first half of 2009.
