Nokia's Maemo platform that powers their Nokia Internet Tablets has been tweaked again to bring new features and bug fixes to your Nokia N800 or Nokia N810. The OS2008 Feature Upgrade, based on Maemo 4.1 (codename: Diablo) brings with it a new open-source email application, better panning in the web browser, and Seamless Software Update. The new email app is based on Modest and the tinymail framework. The email application, RSS reader, and web browser now boasts Chinese-character support. And, in line with Nokia's push to to open-source Symbian, the Maemo 4.1-based OS2008 Feature Upgrade includes fixes that makes the platform more open. Future updates to Maemo will not require a full re-flash of the Nokia Internet Tablet, as they'll be delivered over-the-air (OTA). So, it seems that this Maemo 4.1 Diablo update is the last Maemo update to require a full flashing of the device.
