Juniper Research: Mobile music revenues to approach $18 billion by 2012

According to a new report from Juniper Research “Mobile Music Services: Ringtones, Ringback Tones and Original Recordings (4th edition),” subscription-based music rental services are expected to surge in popularity reaching $3.3 billion by 2012. Report author Dr Windsor Holden suggests that once consumers have taken the time and effort to build up an extensive playlist, they will be increasingly reluctant to unsubscribe from that service and from the operator, thereby providing a significant boost to the ARPU levels. However, the report also states that as 3G services are rolled out in emerging markets, then full-track download sales will mushroom, with the volume of downloads in India alone rising from less than 2 million in 2007 to nearly 480 million in 2012. Other findings from the Juniper report include:

The global market for end-user generated mobile music revenues will rise from $8.9 billion in 2007 to nearly $17.6 billion in 2012

Total revenues from original recordings delivered to the handset will increase from $960 million in 2007 to $6.1 billion in 2012

Revenues from ringtones will peak in 2010, subsequently declining as a result of competitive pricing allied to a steady migration to ad-funded and/or self-created ringtones

Finally — and we’ve no idea how much that’s actually relevant — the report praises the iPhone’s UI, but argues that Apple’s decision to eschew 3G in favour of a greater battery life was incorrect

If you want to know more, white papers and further details of the study are available on Juniper’s website . ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:Mobile gambling wagers to approach $12 billion within 3 yearsJuniper Research: Mobile social networking set for explosive growthJuniper Research: Mobile adult content market to approach $3.5 billion by 2010Mobile phone accessories to generate more revenue than the smartphones in 2007Mobile video telephony and messaging services to exceed $17 billion by 2012

Juniper Research: Mobile WiMAX to reach 80m subscribers within 5 years

In its latest report titled “Mobile WiMAX: Global Opportunities, Strategies & Forecasts, 2007-2013″, Juniper Research forecasts that Mobile WiMAX 802.16e will begin to take off over the 2010 to 2013 period, exceeding 80 million mobile subscribers globally by 2013. Still, report author Howard Wilcox indicates two gating issues that will dictate take-up for this technology - availability of suitable devices and service differentiation. Still, with more and more Mobile WiMAX 802.16e trials and network contracts — over 50 have been announced so far in 2007 alone — the market is very active in all regions of the world. Other findings in the report include:

The value of Mobile WiMAX service revenues globally will grow to over $23bn per annum by 2013.

The top Mobile WiMAX markets will be the USA, Japan and South Korea.

Over 10 countries will have Mobile WiMAX device markets in excess of $100m per annum.

There are several wildcard factors could significantly increase the size of the market including the emergence of very low cost laptops, and adding broadband capability to a range of devices including portable music/MP3 players, and games consoles.

In addition, the report includes country-level forecasts for over 30 countries worldwide, and case studies describing how a number of operators are deploying 802.16e Mobile WiMAX in their networks, and their development plans for the future… Free download from Juniper’s site . ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:Mobile gambling wagers to approach $12 billion within 3 yearsJuniper Research: People WILL adopt mobile payments, it just takes timeJuniper Research: Mobile social networking set for explosive growthJuniper Research: Mobile games market will reach $10bn by 2009Juniper Research: Mobile casino wagers to hit $5bn by 2012
