FCC reveals HP iPAQ 900/910 smartphone

We've been waiting and waiting for HP to finally get real with their iPAQ 900-series Windows Mobile smartphone. Just as we were about to give up on HP's smartphone offering, the HP iPAQ 900 pops up on the FCC's website. We were expecting the HP iPAQ 910 to get its launch on with AT&T back in [...]

Palm announces unlocked Treo 750 Windows Mobile 6.0 for the contract-wary

If contracts and carrier-branding just aren’t your cup of tea, Palm’s got the perfect Treo 750 for you - an unlocked, un-branded version. That’s right, following on Palm’s hours-old launch of the Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade for AT&T-branded Treo 750 users, the struggling handset manufacturer has announced that they’ll be selling the unlocked Palm Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 6.0 pre-installed for $549. Previously only available through AT&T, the unlocked Palm Treo 750 is basically the same handset that you will be getting from AT&T, sans the carrier’s logo and any AT&T-specific firmware tweaks. And, as a world phone, the Palm Treo 750 will be able to get its 3G-on in the US and Europe. So, if you’ve got the need, or are willing, to trade worldwide 3G productivity for some bulk and oddly-sized display, head on over to your Palm Store (we’ve only seen one retail store, ever) or hit the online store for your own unlocked Palm Treo 750.
Windows Mobile update to add higher-resolution widescreen display support

Well, it’s about time. We’ve been stuck with our 320 x 240 WinMo resolutions for so long that it’s almost surprising that Microsoft has added higher-resolution widescreen support. We say almost because the bumped-up resolution support is pretty much the most logical and simplest feature update that Microsoft could have included in the new Windows Mobile 6.0 interface - so the update took us by surprise, but Windows Mobile 6.0 is overdue for this kind of update. Regardless, dynamic (resolution changes between landscape and portrait views) resolution outputs are going to support a host of display formats - from tiny displays with 240 x 240 resolutions to huge widescreens with DVD-like resolutions of 480 x 800. Accelerometers will be used to detect portrait or landscape orientation changes, prompting automatic resolution changes (dynamic) to match the screen’s orientation (much like the iPhone). And this is just about the simplest update that’s due for the new WinMo6 - we can’t wait to see what the rest of the updated Windows Mobile 6.0 will look like!
AT&T to update Palm Treo 750 to Windows Mobile 6.0 soon?

Well, AT&T’s missed it before , and they’ve missed it again. But, could AT&T be on track to release the incredibly sought-after and highly-anticipated Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional upgrade this week (or soon, at least)? The update was rumored for a release earlier this week, but apparently went back into hiding when AT&T noticed bugs in the update. If the bugs were anything less than system-critical, we’d imagine that AT&T could make the necessary fixes and finally get that update out to eager AT&T-branded Treo 750 owner. We know, we know. The pain must be unbearable at this point. Why not just go and grab that leaked WM6 ROM and rub it in AT&T’s face? Or, on second thought, it’s probably best not to tell AT&T about your ill-gotten Palm Treo 750 WinMo6 ROM.
Palm Treo 750 get Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade - as long as it's not branded

Here’s yet another official Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade for you guys. This time it’s unbranded, generic Palm Treo 750’s in the US (remember, Australia already got this update , so you can stop holding your breath now) that get the WinMo6 treatment. The WM6 update comes to us straight from Palm, so those of you using an AT&T-spec Palm Treo 750 are out of luck. Aside from the obvious bump-up to a fresh Windows Mobile 6.0 installation, Palm Treo 750 owners will be glad to hear that the update will enhance your email experience and allow for USB charging. We’re just left with one question - when is AT&T going to get with the program and release their own WM6 update for all those Treo 750 owners that opted for an AT&T-subsidized and branded smartphone? If you shelled out the clams for an unbranded and unlocked Palm Treo 750, and you want to get jiggy with Windows Mobile 6.0, head on over to Palm’s download site . You’ll need to have your Palm Treo 750’s serial number handy. Palm download site .
