Palm posts $43 million Q4 loss despite increased revenue

This sounds all too familiar. Like Helio's inability to turn a profit despite increasing their cash inflow, Palm has posted their Q4 earnings to disappointing effect. Palm highlighted the fact that their revenue was up 29%, based on smartphones sales of 968,000 units totaling $296.2 million. But, it wasn't enough to hide the fact that the [...]

Long-term contracts and carrier-locked handsets are almost a fact of life for many in the US. Sure, Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T have all picked up a Palm Centro to complement their portfolio of smartphones, but the Big Three US wireless carriers are going to want you to sign up for a 2-year stint. For those of [...]

Palm Centro boosts Palm marketshare, RIM sees BlackBerry market share rise, Apple loses in iPhone market

Just as we're getting ready to write-off the aging Palm OS and make room in our hearts for the next-generation Palm OS, Palm goes and regains some lost ground in the smartphone market. Palm has apparently seen its smartphone market-share rise to 13.4%, up from 7.9% in Q4 2007. The popular Palm Centro is credited for [...]

Palm Treo 850 specifications

Fans of Palm's Treo lineup of smartphones are no doubt waiting on the edge of their seats for Palm to go live with the next-generation Treo lineup. And, from the looks of the leaked and in-the-wild pictures we've seen of the fresh, new wares, it's not hard to see why. The slimmer, sleeker, and more [...]

FCC documents hint at Palm Treo 800w?

Some people have too much time on their hands - and that’s a good thing. An intrepid FCC document-surfer over at Treo Central has uncovered email back-and-forths between the FCC and Palm. The documents seem to hint at a GSM variant of the Palm Centro (codenamed Gryphon/Gandalf) headed to AT&T as the Palm Centro 685 (Sprint’s Palm Centro goes by the model number “690″). A Palm Centro intended for a GSM network makes sense, and we’re not at all surprised to hear that AT&T might be getting their very own Centro next year. There’s also mention of a Palm “Otto” - which is likely the Asus-sourced Palm Treo 500w that may be headed to AT&T. What does surprise us, however, is the mention of an unknown device - codenamed “Zeppelin” and sporting “co-located WiFi and radio.” Whispers on the internets are pointing towards the Zeppelin being the rumored Palm Treo 800w . The mention of WiFi and radio could mean that the WiFi circuitry is shared with the Bluetooth radio or a cellular radio. If the Zeppelin includes a cellular radio, we could have documentation confirming a Palm Treo 800w. If the mention of “radio” refers to a Bluetooth jobby, we could have some expired documentation referring to the dead-like-mullets Palm Foleo - of course, Bluetooth could also indicate a mobile phone as well. Do we, or don’t we have a Palm Treo 800w on our hands? Only time will tell. We love FCC documents, but we love uncovering unintended-for-public communications between manufacturers and the FCC. We’ll keep an eye out for more details on the Palm Treo 800w, stay tuned.
