There's only one way HTC is going to meet their upgraded sales projections for the new HTC Touch Diamond over the next year - the Taiwanese manufacturer is going to have to push the HTC Touch Diamond hard in already entrenched markets as well as bring the handset to new markets.

RIM, not one to let the prospect of getting kicked out of the potentially lucrative Indian wireless market, has apparently had its hand forced by the Indian government. Following on government officials' threats to ban RIM from the country if a workable network-monitoring deal wasn't worked out in a timely fashion, RIM has announced that [...]

iPhone on Vodafone India by September?

At least that's what folks supposedly in-the-know are saying. While the US the Europe are waiting eagerly for the 3G iPhone to make its global debut, Indians on Vodafone could have an iPhone 8GB to look forward to later this year. More specifically, the 8GB iPhone is purportedly slated to drop on Vodafone India in [...]

India threatens to shut down RIM's BlackBerry network again

Again with the network-shutdown threats. Indian government officials have again threatened to flip the off-switch on RIM's BlackBerry network in India if RIM doesn't hand over backdoor access to its encrypted email network. India's Department of Telecom has given RIM a 15-day ultimatum - "open up your encrypted network to our spooks or say bye-bye to [...]

India and RIM come to terms on BlackBerry encryption

So it looks like RIM's encrypted BlackBerry network will keep on keeping on in India. Following a meeting between Indian government officials and representatives from the wireless industry, India has decided to let the encrypted BlackBerry system continue operating. "We will discuss the issue with the Telecom Commission… the country's security is of paramount importance," said [...]

India threatening to shutdown RIM's BlackBerry service

Research In Motion's popular BlackBerry handsets and push email service is now a worldwide phenomenon. China just recently allowed the BlackBerry through its borders, and even India has some 400,000 active BlackBerry users. But, there's a problem with the push email system used by BlackBerry handsets. They encrypt the email data. It might seem like more [...]

Vodafone may have to pay $2 billion to Indian government for Hutchison Essar acquisition

Vodafone could be looking down the barrel of a $2 billion shotgun, held by the Indian government. You see, Vodafone’s recent acquisition of Hutchison Essar, India’s largest mobile operator might be subject to capital gains taxes - and the Bombay High Court just green-lighted an investigation into whether Vodafone is really is liable for the taxes. Vodafone acquired Hutchison Essar for a righteous sum of $11 billion, and the capital gains made from that deal may require $2 billion in taxes. . The company is arguing that the deal was made between offshore entities (Vodafone and Hong Kong-based Hutchison) and is therefore not subject to taxation. Vodafone is what we’d call a big fish in the wireless pond, so we’re sure they’re not going to go belly-up if they have to pony up the $2 billion. But, that’s still a lot of money to just throw away, and you can be sure that Vodafone will be fighting this tax to the end - after all, it Vodafone was just fined in Greece .
