European Union approves Sony Ericsson, Motorola deal

Motorola has been poised to take a 50% stake in Sony Ericsson’s mobile OS, UIQ, for some time now. Motorola wants to be half-vested partners in Sony Ericsson’s UI Holdings BV, the parent company of UIQ Technology AB. The last obstacle keeping Moto from sharing the UIQ limelight with the Japanese Swedish venture was the European Union’s approval of the partnership deal. Well, Moto just got some good news in the EU’s greenlighting of the deal with the European Commission’s blessing. The EC found no antitrust tie-ups with the deal and has given the go-ahead for Motorola buy into UI Holdings and should clear the way for more innovative UIQ offerings from the mobile phone manufacturing duo. We can’t wait to see what Motorola and Sony Ericsson will bring in 2008.
Hot Deal: HTC Mogul on Sprint for FREE!

Hot deal? Or blazing deal? We found this deal on none other than Amazon and we thought some of our Sprint-subscribed readers would appreciate the heads up. If you’re in the market for an HTC Mogul , or just want to subsidize another handset purchase, you’ll love this deal. Amazon is offering the HTC Mogul on Sprint’s network for the low, low price of $ FREE.99 ! That’s pretty much free. Wait, it is free (after rebate, of course). The deal requires that you sign up with Sprint for 2 years, but that’s the norm these days anyway. Even if you weren’t looking for an HTC Mogul, you can grab this sucker for free, sell it, and put that money towards another handset purchase. You should be able to “eBay” it for more than a third-party retailer will subsidize any carrier-branded handset. In either case, you win. Find the deal here . Get on it before it’s gone.
MetroPCS: Leap Wireless keeps rejecting us, we're going to stop hitting on them

Business is a lot like dating. You keep hitting on other people in the hopes that you’ll be able to score that meaningful relationship that makes both parties happy. But, if the same hottie keep burning you with super-cold rejection, you just have to call it quits. MetroPCS apparently can’t stand the constant rejection by Leap Wireless - they’ve announced that they will stop pursuing Leap Wireless for acquisition. MetroPCS released a statement that the company “ has not been able to engage Leap in meaningful negotiations.” And, to rub some salty insult into that wound, Leap CEO Doug Hutcheson stated that the deal was “completely inadequate in a number of critical areas.” Leap Wireless’ shoulder is a cold one indeed. Meanwhile, MetroPCS has successfully broken into the coveted Los Angeles, CA. market, so they’re not doing too badly. Still, it’s gotta be pretty harsh, making public their “inadequacies” and all. Update: It seems Leap is still open to negotiations with MetroPCS. We think the two companies would be better by joining forces, so we’ll see what happens. [Via: RCRNews ] ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:MetroPCS puts in buy-offer to acquire Leap Wireless for $5.12 billionMetroPCS goes live in Los Angeles, CA.Leap wireless to MetroPCS: No thanksFCC: Huawei M318 headed to MetrPCSAlltel and MetroPCS gun for 700Mhz spectrum; Newly opened spectrum to be auctioned soon
