iPhoneDevTeam releases source code for AnySIM iPhone unlock tool

It’s one thing to call a piece of software “open source and an entirely different thing to actually make the code “open source.” The iPhoneDevTeam’s iPhone unlocking tool, dubbed AnySIM , has been called an open-source application, but the source code wasn’t widely available. Well, in the spirit of the holiday’s, the iPhone-hacking consortium has gone and released the source-code for the AnySIM - consider it a really geeky early-Christmas present. Adventurous iPhone hackers can find the code on the iPhoneDevTeam’s Google Code webpage. An outsider’s perspective might be just the inspiration we need to find a working unlock solution for the iPhone v1.1.2. Apple boosts iPhone CPU clockspeed with iPhone v1.1.2 firmware update

The iPhone v1.1.2 firmware update is old news already. Hell, yesterday’s news is already old news. But, here’s something we just learned about the iPhone v1.1.2 update. It seems all the updates hidden within the v1.1.2 firmware are more geared towards stability, security, and speed. In this case, the v1.1.2 update boosts your iPhone’s CPU clockspeeds by about 12Mhz and system bus speed by 3Mhz. iPhones with v1.1.1 firmware will see their CPU clock-in at 400Mhz and bus-speeds of 100Mhz. Updating to v1.1.2 will result in 412Mhz CPU clockspeeds and 103Mhz bus-speeds - which amounts to a 3% CPU-speed increase and a 3% bus-speed increase. Reports of shortened iPhone battery-life on v1.1.2 iPhones start to make sense in light of the bumped-up CPU speed - faster processors require more juice. Check out the screenshots from SysInfo. The one thing about the iPhone v1.1.2 jailbreak was that it only worked with legit, AT&T activated iPhones on Intel-based Mac machines. That’s right! The iPhone v1.1.2 firmware is now officially jailbroken. The new firmware’s only been officially available to US iPhone users for what seems like a minute and the developer community has already opened it up to third-party applications. With the r eturn of homemade ringtones to v1.1.2 iPhones paired with iTunes 7.5, we previously mentioned that we’d hold off on updating to the new firmware until it was successfully jailbroken. So, it looks like we’ll be making the jump to iPhone v1.1.2 post-haste. The iPhone v1.1.2 jailbreak software is compatible with both Windows and Mac and will handle your Installer.app installation needs. Short of truly one-click GUI jailbreak solution for iPhone v1.1.2, this newest jailbreak from Conceited Software should give anyone that has at least a passing familiarity with terminal commands an easy way to bring third-party apps to the new iPhone firmware. Here’s the rundown on jailbreaking your iPhone v1.1.2:

Jailbreak your iPhone v1.1.1 with this one-click web-app , if you haven’t already done so (oh, and update to iPhone v1.1.1 if you’re still using v1.0.2 - it doesn’t hurt, we promise)
Fire up Installer.app and find “Oktoprep” under “All Packages”
Download and Install Oktoprep

As expected , Apple has posted a new iPhone firmware today. With the European iPhone launch well underway, the new firmware is now an official part of the iPhone community. As you’ll probably recall, the iPhone v1.1.2 firmware basically adds extended language support with special character sets and keyboards. More notably, the iPhone v1.1.2 firmware gives UK iPhone users access to The Cloud WiFi HotSpot network. Oh, and it patches that TIFF security hole that’s been exploited by all jailbreak solutions. But, if you’re not in the UK (UK iPhones comes pre-installed with v1.1.2 anyway), and you don’t need anything more than English-language support, there’s really no reason to update your iPhone v1.1.1. The new v1.1.2 firmware will break your current jailbreak solution. And, seeing as how you can easily patch that TIFF security hole with an Installer.app application or through jailbreakme , we can’t really see any added benefit to US iPhone users. But, should you feel like updating your iPhone to the new v1.1.2 firmware, go right ahead and download the 160MB update. Confirmed: Apple launching iPhone v1.1.2 firmware with European iPhone launch

Beware, dear iPhone user. Apple has confirmed to PocketLint that US iPhone users can expect to see an iPhone v1.1.2 update become available tomorrow, Friday, November 9 - concurrently with the European iPhone launch in the UK and Germany (on O2 and T-Mobile , respectively). We already know that the v1.1.2 firmware will bring enhanced language support with special character keys and international keyboards. UK users can also expect support for The Cloud WiFi HotSpots . So, what’s with the ominous warning? Well, like with all previous updates, we’re expecting the iPhone v1.1.2 update to break all existing jailbreak solutions - including our favorite, one-click, jailbreakme solution. If you don’t need any extended language support, we’d recommend against updating to this latest firmware. Jailbreakme will automatically patch the TIFF security hole (and there are patches available through Installer.app as well) so the increased security that Apple is touting with the new firmware is a moot point. Wait until Apple releases their official iPhone SDK or gives us video recording/MMS/iChat. UK iPhone sports new v1.1.2 firmware ahead of US release - kills jailbreak

As usual, our friends across the pond (that little puddle we call the Atlantic Ocean) got their hands on mobile tech before us. This time ( November 9 on O2 , officially), the UK will get to play with the newest iPhone v1.1.2 firmware. Aside from some additional multi-language support and access to “The Cloud WiFi” hotspots, the only real update in the v1.1.2 firmware appears to be a plugged security hole. Specifically, the TIFF security hole that allowed iPhone hackers to jailbreak the iPhone will be officially patched with the iPhone v1.1.2 firmware - which should render all current jailbreak methods invalid. We’re sure the iPhone development community will be hard at work to jailbreak the v1.1.2 firmware, just like they did with the current v1.1.1 firmware . Of course, if you’re concerned that your iPhone v1.1.1 is a little too lax in the security department, you can just jailbreak your iPhone with the online-based one-click jailbreak solution we brought you earlier . The jailbreakme.com solution will actually open up your iPhone v1.1.1 to third-party applications while patching that ominous TIFF security hole.
