Disney Mobile has already shuttered the doors to its US-based MVNO operations, but that doesn't mean the Disney-branded network operator isn't going to give it its all in Japan. With network time leased from Japan's Softbank, Disney Mobile is looking for a more successful Japanese-run this time around. As such, Disney Mobile has announced its second [...]

Disney Mobile to resurrect in Japan

Roughly a month ago, we saw Disney Mobile shutting its MVNO operations in the U.S. and we thought the popular cartoon and film maker finally figured out — it’s the content it should make its money from. But no, they’ve decided to give it another shot only this time in Japan. Somehow, I’m having a problem envisioning Japanese kids running around with their Disney-branded handsets, although you never know… Anyway, Disney has “reached a basic agreement” with Softbank Mobile to use their network in a hope to eventually reach one million subscribers by sweetening the deal with free “animated film downloads.” In addition, the two companies are teaming up to “develop handsets and consign its output to other companies.” Way to go Disney… NO! Again, stick to content - that’s what you do best!
