Palm announces unlocked Treo 750 Windows Mobile 6.0 for the contract-wary

If contracts and carrier-branding just aren’t your cup of tea, Palm’s got the perfect Treo 750 for you - an unlocked, un-branded version. That’s right, following on Palm’s hours-old launch of the Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade for AT&T-branded Treo 750 users, the struggling handset manufacturer has announced that they’ll be selling the unlocked Palm Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 6.0 pre-installed for $549. Previously only available through AT&T, the unlocked Palm Treo 750 is basically the same handset that you will be getting from AT&T, sans the carrier’s logo and any AT&T-specific firmware tweaks. And, as a world phone, the Palm Treo 750 will be able to get its 3G-on in the US and Europe. So, if you’ve got the need, or are willing, to trade worldwide 3G productivity for some bulk and oddly-sized display, head on over to your Palm Store (we’ve only seen one retail store, ever) or hit the online store for your own unlocked Palm Treo 750.
Verizon's Motorola RIZR Z6c 'World Edition' press photos

There’s nothing we love more than some highly-stylized press-shots of the latest and greatest handsets, and Engadget Mobile’s got their hands on the images that Verizon will be using to promote the recently FCC-approved Motorola RIZR Z6c “World Edition” slider . The “World Edition” portion of the handset’s name indicates the dual-mode CDMA and GSM compatibility of the handset, while the “c” in “Z6c” indicates that the VCAST TV-support from the Z6tv will be nixed from the spec-sheet in favor of that “world-traveling” GSM radio.Anyway, hit the link for more glamor shots on Verizon’s up-and-coming Motorola RIZR Z6c “World Edition” slider-phone.
Motorola RIZR Z6c clears FCC, headed towards Verizon

Talk about a truly global-capable phone. The Motorola RIZR Z6c has just gotten the green-light from the FCC , and should be bringing all that GSM and CDMA goodness to Verizon’s network sometime soon. GSM and CDMA on Verizon’s network? Did Verizon launch some sort of undercover GSM network while we weren’t looking? Not a chance. Verizon’s more than happy with their CDMA stance in the US wireless landscape, but with most of the world using GSM technology, it makes sense for Verizon to bring a world phone on board with the ability to surf those GSM airwaves abroad. The Motorola RIZR Z6c slider (as the name would suggest) will be rocking the same 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, microSD card slot, and QVGA display from its MediaFLO and VCAST TV sporting sibling - the Motorola RIZR Z6tv . Verizon will be adding the Moto RIZR Z6c to its “World Edition” stable (alongside the recently released BlackBerry 8830 ) - the dual-band CDMA radio with EVDO and dual-band 900/1800 MHz GSM radio ensures that the Motorola RIZR Z6c “World Edition” will be comfortable in pretty much any country on this planet. We’re not sure when this thing’s going to go live on Verizon’s network. But, with the holiday season rapidly coming to a close, this FCC approval might expedite the Motorola RIZR Z6c’s launch. With that cool-looking, embossed rear (it’s all about the little details), we can’t wait to get our hands on this thing.
Verizon may have Samsung i760 world phone in the works

We heard it on the grapevine. It seems that Verizon Wireless may be prepping a world-phone edition of their newly released Samsung i760 smartphone to pull duty as the jet-setting complement to the CDMA handset in the states. Word has it that the Samsung i760 world phone may rock EVDO for US-based phoning and GSM (with possible HSDPA) for use on overseas networks. All other features are said to be on par with the Samsung i760 that’s already out with Verizon. We’ll pass along more details as we get them.
