Anyone else experience SMS text messaging delays at midnight?

And by midnight, we mean the approximate time of your particular time-zone’s “New Year” crossover. It seems that, with SMS text messaging volume hitting new highs , the volume of mobile-based messages from texters sending out “New Year” tidings and cheer caused something of a system-overload. We found that text messages failed to send, or took much much longer than usual, around the stroke of midnight - “New Year’s,” if you prefer. Specifically, AT&T’s Manhattan network seemed to have clogged up with masses of text messages that probably went something like “Happy New Year’s!” Anyone else experience similar delays? As more and more people rely on text messages to stay in touch, carriers might want to increase capacity or move SMS data through data networks rather than the traditional voice network. ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:Samsung's new patent to improve the text messagingFree SMS text messaging from your web browser - also sends to your mobile phone, does mass messaging, repliesT-Mobile USA to raise text messaging pricesSprint: Yes we raised our SMS text message rates, No you can't cancel your contract without an ETFT-mobile's Mother's Day Pormotion: [...]

Alltel launches Voice2TXT voicemail transcription service

Just in time to make their Q4 2007 deadline for rolling out their voice-to-text voicemail transcription service , Alltel has just launched their SpinVox-based service - Voice2TXT is finally here. Alltel subscribers can now pay $4.99 to have 20 conversations transcribed from voice into, well, text - with 100 conversation-transcriptions running $19.99. There’s no unlimited plan as of yet, but we can only hope that Alltel will roll out an unlimited plan if this whole Voice2TXT service goes well. Transcribed voicemails are sent as text-messages (not counted against any text-message limit - you are paying an arm and a leg for this service in the first place), after which the voicemail can be casually read at your earliest convenience. The new service requires that Alltel users reset their voicemail system and re-record their greeting. Once that’s done, they’ll never have to listen to a voicemail ever again - as long as their wallets can support the habit.
Change your iPhone's SMS text message bubbles to a matte finish - iPhone Matte

We love the threaded SMS text messaging system on the iPhone. But, some of you may be getting a bit tired of the shiny-look and green/gray color scheme of the text-bubbles. Well, this one goes out to you. Joshua Bryant has released his iPhone Matte to change the shiny-finish of the text-bubbles to a “matte” finish. iPhone Matte even gives you the option to change the color-scheme of your chat-bubbles - with 9 flashy colors to choose from. For what it’s worth, the color choices give new life to the iPhone’s chat bubbles, but we’re not fans of the matte finish.
Man sues everyone over international SMS text messaging patent

What did we say about the litigation-happy society that the US has become ? It looks like another joker is coming out of the woodwork and has filed suit against 131 companies for infringing on his patent regarding the sending and receiving of SMS text message to/from foreign countries. Digital Trends is reporting that Aris Mardirissian, founder of Technology Patents LLC, claims that his two patents ( 6,646,542 and RE39,870 ) outline a method to deliver SMS text messages overseas by using the internet as a packet-switched network to reach a foreign mobile network. Mardirissian is seeking a permanent injunction against all companies sending and receiving international SMS text messages and some money as compensation. The suit names Microsoft, Motorola, Yahoo, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T among a host of other companies totalling a whopping 131 in all! Now, this character has apparently had some legal trouble in the past, so we’ll see how this lawsuit pans out.
