TomTom doesn't plan own-brand handsets

TomTom won't follow Garmin's suit and doesn't plan to launch own-brand handsets. Apparently, the personal navigation device (PND) maker wants to focus on the development of the core software and further strengthen its content and services for in-car PNDs. While still concentrating on the PND market, the handset segment is a potential market for the personal navigation applications, said the executive, who also noted that TomTom will expand its cooperation with handset makers by providing needed solutions. While we're speaking about their mobile offering, TomTom already has it's solution developed for Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 platforms. In addition, they are cooperating with such handset makers as HTC and Asus, and I guess their next move could involve developing software for other platforms like Symbian UIQ, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.
